Madeira levada and trail closures

Which of the official PR walking routes are open, restricted or closed right now.

40 classified trails: 5 closed, 3 with restrictions, 32 fully open.

The PR routes are the signposted, maintained trails and levadas that the regional government has classified. IFCN, the forest and nature institute, closes them after storms, wildfires and landslides and reopens them once the path has been cleared and checked, so a route that was fine last month can be shut this week. The list below mirrors the official status page once a day.

Walking a classified trail requires a paid reservation through the regional SIMplifica portal. The official trail pages list the fee as 4.50 € per visitor over 12; children of 12 and under are exempt. Book before you set off. Reserve on SIMplifica

Closed(5)

Do not walk these. The closure is enforced and the path may be blocked or washed away.

Open with restrictions(3)
