No rides posted for the next days yet
Rides show up here as soon as somebody posts one. Post yours in the app: people going the same way will find it, and the app tells you when a ride you are looking for appears.
Search every ride by place and day
In the app you pick where from, where to and the day, see who is going, ask for a seat on your part of the route and chat with the organiser.

How it works
- 1
Find or post a ride
Search by place and day, or post where you are going: in your car, in a taxi you want to share, or as a request for a lift.
- 2
Ask for a seat and chat
Ask for a seat on your part of the route. When the organiser accepts, you agree on the meeting point in the ride's chat - with a Translate button under every message.
- 3
Travel together, split the cost
Meet, ride together and settle your share directly between you. No money goes through the app.
Three ways to share
I'm driving
You have a car and free seats. Post the ride: the app draws the road, picks the stops along it and suggests a fair share of the costs per person.
Let's share a taxi
Taking a taxi anyway? Fill its empty seats and split the fare - to the airport, to the start of a hike, or home after dinner.
I need a ride
No car? Post where and when you need to go. Drivers and taxi groups heading that way can invite you onto their ride.
Where people share rides
Visitors and people who live here use it for the same thing: getting somewhere without paying for empty seats.
One-way hikes
Many levada walks and the Pico do Arieiro - Pico Ruivo crossing end far from where they start. Share the taxi to the start, or the ride back from the end.
Sunrise at Pico do Arieiro
Leaving before dawn? Share the car or the taxi with others heading up for the sunrise above the clouds.
Airport and harbour
Landing or leaving with luggage? Share a taxi between the airport, Funchal and wherever you are staying.
Everyday trips
Work, the market, a dinner on the other side of the island: offer the empty seats you drive anyway, or find a lift.
Porto Santo too
Rides on Porto Santo are listed here as well: from the ferry or the airport to the beach and back.
Built to be safe
A real profile
Everyone who posts a ride or asks for a seat has a profile photo, and every photo is checked before it is shown.
Messages are screened
Ride notes and chat messages are checked for spam and abuse, and a person reviews what is reported.
Report and block
Block someone and you disappear for each other everywhere in Shared rides. Accounts that break the rules are banned.
No language barrier
Every chat message has a Translate button, so a German hiker and a Portuguese driver can agree on the details.
No payments in the app
You agree on the share and pay each other directly. No card details, no fees, nothing to refund.
Cost sharing only
A driver may ask only for a fair share of fuel, tolls and parking: Portuguese law allows car sharing without profit.
Questions
Is Shared rides free?
Yes. Posting a ride, searching, asking for a seat and the chat are free, and there is no commission. The Madeira app itself is free on iPhone and Android.
How do we pay each other?
Directly, in cash or however you agree. The app suggests a fair price per person from the distance and the driver can change it. No money passes through the app or through us.
Is sharing a car ride legal in Portugal?
Yes, as long as nobody makes a profit: Portuguese law allows car sharing without profit (Lei n.º 45/2018). A driver may ask only for a share of the real costs - fuel, tolls, parking. In a taxi share, the taxi's fare is split between the people in it.
Do I need an account?
Not to look: the next rides are listed on this page and in the app. To ask for a seat, post a ride or chat, you sign in in the app and add a profile photo.
Is it safe to ride with people I don't know?
Every rider has a checked profile photo, messages are screened, and you can report or block anyone. Meet in a public place, tell a friend which ride you are on, and trust your instincts. The terms have more safety tips.
Can I share a taxi from Madeira airport?
Yes. Post a taxi share from the airport with your arrival time, or look for one already going your way, and split the fare with the others.
What if we don't speak the same language?
Each message in a ride's chat has a Translate button that shows it in your language. The app speaks English, German, Russian, French, Polish and Dutch.
Why can't I ask for a seat on the website?
Asking for a seat, the chat and the people on a ride are only in the app, so that only signed-in riders with a profile see each other. The website shows the route, the time and the free seats.
