Funchal cruise ship calendar
Which ships are in port on which day, and how busy Funchal will be.
Funchal is a port of call, not a home port: most ships arrive between 7 and 9 in the morning and leave between 5 and 6 in the evening. On a day with two or three large ships, up to ten thousand passengers come ashore at once, and the old town, the cable car and the Monte toboggans fill up by mid-morning.
Planning the Monte cable car? Pick a day marked quiet, or go after 3 pm on a busy one: the queues thin out as passengers head back to their ships. On a day with no ship at all you can usually walk straight on.
