Youth Movement Advocates for Full Financing and Renovation Support for Young Homebuyers in Madeira
The Juventude CHEGA Madeira is pushing for 100% financing and additional support for young homebuyers amidst high property prices and limited affordable options.
In a passionate plea to address the housing crisis affecting young people in Madeira, the Juventude CHEGA Madeira, a local youth political movement, has called for the extension of full financing for first-time homebuyers and the introduction of a new support line for renovation projects. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by young Madeirans in acquiring and renovating homes.
Renata Rocha, coordinator of the Juventude CHEGA Madeira, highlighted the pressing need for tangible solutions as the region grapples with skyrocketing real estate prices and a limited supply of affordable housing. She emphasized that many available properties are old or in disrepair, requiring substantial investment beyond the reach of most young people.
The movement's proposal includes ensuring long-term 100% financing and establishing a subsidized renovation support line. According to Rocha, such measures are essential to enable young Madeirans to secure housing and potentially bring vacant properties back into the market.
"The young people of Madeira cannot be left to fend for themselves. We demand clear commitments, serious planning, and political courage," Rocha stated, stressing the urgency of the situation.
Furthermore, the movement argues that the inability to access affordable housing is causing young people to leave the island, impacting the local community's demographic and economic stability. Rocha urged the regional and national governments to collaborate on solutions that genuinely address these challenges.
The Juventude CHEGA Madeira's call to action comes as an appeal not only to political leaders but also to the broader community to support initiatives that ensure the sustainability and growth of Madeira's youth population.
