Madeira to extend AI training to all secondary schools
Miguel Albuquerque says artificial intelligence training will reach every secondary school in Madeira, private ones included, after pilot projects.
The Regional Government will extend training in artificial intelligence to all secondary schools in Madeira, including private schools. Regional Government president Miguel Albuquerque announced it on Saturday during a visit to the new Centre for Innovation and Digital Skills in Funchal.
The extension follows pilot artificial intelligence projects in schools. Public schools already have 29 rooms equipped for robotics and 3D printing. Albuquerque cited PISA results on the computing skills of the region's pupils as a reason to keep investing, according to JM Madeira.
The centre is in the restored building known as Casa Verde, next to the Escola Secundária Francisco Franco, according to DN Madeira. The newspaper reports that it cost about 3.07 million euros, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), and is meant to strengthen digital skills in public administration, with a focus on artificial intelligence.
According to DN Madeira, the building has training rooms and an area set aside for artificial intelligence, and will serve public administration, schools and businesses. A protocol is planned with the Escola Secundária Francisco Franco and other bodies for the use of the building, including its auditorium.
