Funchal offers six grants of 5,000 euros to young artists
Artists born, living or trained in Funchal can apply from 30 October to 30 November 2026 for the council's new IMPULSO grants.
Funchal City Council (Câmara Municipal do Funchal) is launching the first edition of its Young Creators Grant, Projeto IMPULSO. It will award six grants of 5,000 euros each, 30,000 euros in total, to artists aged 18 to 35. The money comes from the Madeira 2030 programme.
There is one grant in each of six areas: theatre, music, dance, cinema, visual arts and cross-disciplinary work. The best-ranked project in each area wins. Projects must be new work.
Artists may apply alone or as a collective if they were born in or live in the municipality of Funchal, or did their academic training there. Applications go through the council's CMFonline platform between 30 October and 30 November 2026. They must include a detailed project proposal, a portfolio and a proposal for an artist residency and public presentation.
The selected projects also get an artist residency and a public presentation at the IMPULSO Festival. The date and place are to be agreed with the municipality.
The competition is governed by Regulation no. 1271/2026, published in the Diário da República on 9 October 2026.
