The iconic Vereda do Pico do Areeiro trail in Madeira will fully reopen on June 26th, offering unrestricted access to hikers and nature enthusiasts. The trail, known for its breathtaking views, is a vital part of Madeira's natural attractions.

The much-celebrated Vereda do Pico do Areeiro, a prominent hiking trail on Madeira Island, is scheduled to fully reopen to the public on June 26th. The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) announced that the trail will no longer have access restrictions or calendar limitations from this date forward.

Previously, the trail has been undergoing improvement works, necessitating partial closures. Until June 25th, it remains closed from Monday to Thursday and open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The decision to maintain this schedule was aimed at allowing visitors to enjoy the trail while ensuring the safety and completion of improvement projects.

From June 26th, hikers can explore the route daily, adhering to a one-way traffic system between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo. This measure, along with other safety protocols, was put in place following a landslide that affected the area.

However, the IFCN has noted that a temporary closure will occur in September for the installation of a new walkway, with closures scheduled for September 14th to 17th and 21st to 22nd. Once completed, normal operations will resume.

Access to the trail requires prior registration via the Simplifica platform. This process aims to manage visitor numbers effectively and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

The Vereda do Pico do Areeiro is one of Madeira's most iconic trails, offering stunning views and a unique hiking experience. Its reopening is a significant event for both locals and tourists, promising enhanced safety and quality of the route.
