The Juntos pelo Povo party calls for immediate action to restore the derelict Jardim de São Francisco in Câmara de Lobos, highlighting its potential as a community hub.

The Jardim de São Francisco in Câmara de Lobos, a historic public garden built in the 1970s, is in dire need of requalification, according to the local political party Juntos pelo Povo (JPP). Nuno Freitas, a member of the Câmara de Lobos parish assembly, has brought attention to the various issues plaguing the garden, including deteriorated pavements, vandalized monuments, and abandoned facilities.

Freitas highlighted the neglect of the space, which he described as lacking the necessary conditions for public enjoyment. He noted that the garden's monument to São Francisco de Assis has been vandalized, the area is unkempt, and access to the parking lot is severely restricted. The once operational restaurant is now deserted, and the playground equipment has disappeared altogether.

The JPP argues that the Jardim de São Francisco has untapped potential that could benefit the community if revitalized. The garden includes an underground parking facility capable of accommodating 150 vehicles, which could alleviate parking issues in the area if properly utilized.

Freitas emphasized the importance of restoring this space for both residents and visitors, criticizing the current state of affairs as an embarrassment to the local community. "Is this what the current administration wants to offer to those who live here and visit us?" he questioned.

Despite the space being managed by the Sociedade Metropolitana de Desenvolvimento, Freitas insists that the rejuvenation of the garden should be a priority, stressing its historical value and potential as a community and tourist attraction.
