April 12, 2026, was marked by a series of alarming incidents in Madeira, underscoring the critical role of emergency services on the island. In the early hours, the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched to a residence in Ribeira da Alforra, Câmara de Lobos, where they discovered an elderly woman, in her 80s, deceased. Despite their swift response, there was nothing they could do to save her.

Later that morning, at 12:48, another call for help reached the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters. This time, it was an accident involving a motorcycle and a car on Caminho do Engenho Velho, Funchal. The motorcyclist, a 22-year-old man, fortunately escaped severe injury and declined transportation to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Just after noon, at 12:35, emergency services were again on the move, this time to assist a woman in her 60s who had suffered a fall from a staircase at Beco da Garagem, Funchal.
