The four patients have been isolated and an epidemiological investigation is under way. SESARAM says health services are running normally.

Madeira's regional health service, SESARAM, has identified four cases of tuberculosis in a residential area of Câmara de Lobos, the municipality that borders Funchal to the west. It announced the cases in a statement on Tuesday evening, 3 November.

The Public Health Unit and the Câmara de Lobos health centre are following the cases. The patients have been isolated and are under clinical monitoring, and an epidemiological investigation is under way. The health centre has set aside spaces for screening and for treating the patients.

SESARAM has activated its contingency plan and reinforced prevention measures. It said health services are running normally so far, with no impact on patient care.

The service said strict adherence to prevention and control measures is essential to limit transmission of the disease.
