In a shocking series of events in Madeira, a man and a woman, both in their 80s, were found deceased in separate incidents. Meanwhile, firefighters rescued a cat stuck on a power pole in Monte.

In a chain of unfortunate events on April 12 and 13, Madeira was struck by two tragic incidents involving the deaths of elderly residents and a peculiar animal rescue operation.

Elderly Man Found Dead in Machico

On the morning of April 13, the Municipal Firefighters of Machico were dispatched to Estrada Dom Manuel I, where they discovered the body of an elderly man in his 80s. Despite the prompt arrival of three firefighters, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear at this time.

Woman's Body Discovered in Câmara de Lobos

Earlier, on April 12, the Volunteer Firefighters of Câmara de Lobos were alerted to a residence in Ribeira da Alforra. There, they found the lifeless body of a woman, also in her 80s. Similar to the Machico incident, no resuscitative efforts were successful. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.

Cat Rescued from Power Pole in Monte

In a lighter but equally dramatic incident, the Volunteer Firefighters of Madeira were called to Estrada do Corujeira in Monte. A cat had been spotted atop a power pole, unable to descend. Two firefighters successfully rescued the feline using a ladder truck, much to the relief of concerned locals.

These events highlight the varied nature of emergency responses in Madeira, from addressing human tragedies to handling unique animal rescues, reflecting the diverse challenges faced by local emergency services.
