Traditional Canoes Bring Vibrant Colors Back to Funchal Bay

This Saturday, the picturesque Funchal Bay will once again host the 23rd edition of the Traditional Canoe Regatta, a beloved sociocultural event that brings together both locals and tourists in a celebration of Madeira's maritime heritage.
The event, scheduled to start at noon, is organized by the Madeira Regional Canoeing Association and promoted by the Funchal City Council. It has already attracted 35 entries with around 90 participants hailing from various municipalities including Santa Cruz, Funchal, Câmara de Lobos, Ponta do Sol, and Porto Moniz.
Participants are set to gather at the Centro Náutico de São Lázaro for a briefing at 11 AM, where they will receive final instructions before the canoes set sail. The regatta not only offers a competitive spirit but also serves as a vibrant showcase of traditional Madeiran boat craftsmanship.
Funchal Bay, known for its stunning backdrop and clear waters, provides the perfect setting for this annual event, which has become a highlight of the local cultural calendar.
