In the span of a few days, the city experienced an assault, a traffic accident, and a serious road collision, all of which necessitated prompt emergency response and resulted in hospitalizations.

Assault on Estrada dos Marmeleiros

On April 26, 2026, around 10:45 PM, a 62-year-old man was assaulted near the church on Estrada dos Marmeleiros. The victim was pushed to the ground, sustaining a head injury, and was swiftly attended to by the PSP (Public Security Police) and the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses. He was subsequently transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.

Road Traffic Incident Near Anadia Shopping Center

Two days prior, on April 24, 2026, a 49-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on Rua do Ribeirinho de Baixo, close to the Anadia Shopping Center. She complained of arm pain and was quickly assisted by the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses before being taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Serious Bicycle Accident on Estrada do Livramento

On April 23, 2026, a serious accident occurred on Estrada do Livramento when a cyclist, in his 60s, collided with a bus. The incident resulted in significant injuries, and the cyclist was urgently attended to by the EMIR (Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Team) and the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses, and was transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça in a critical condition.

These incidents have sparked conversations about the safety infrastructure in Funchal, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors.
