The Port Authority of Funchal has issued an updated weather warning for Madeira, forecasting strong winds and rough seas. Residents and tourists are advised to take precautions.

The Port Authority of Funchal has updated its weather warning for the Madeira archipelago, predicting severe maritime conditions due to strong winds and turbulent seas. The advisory, based on information from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), is in effect until 12 PM on April 10, 2026.

According to the latest forecast, winds are expected to blow from the north/northwest with intensities ranging from 'fresh' (31-39 km/h) to 'very fresh' (40-50 km/h), occasionally reaching 'strong' (51-61 km/h) as the day progresses. The conditions are expected to intensify, with wind speeds potentially increasing to between 51 and 74 km/h, and shifting to a north/northeast direction.

Authorities have recommended that residents and visitors avoid exposed coastal areas and ensure that vessels are securely moored. The warning advises heightened vigilance due to the potential for dangerous sea conditions.

Madeira, a popular tourist destination known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, often experiences such weather due to its Atlantic location. The island's topography can exacerbate wind speeds, making these warnings crucial for the safety of both residents and tourists.

Residents are urged to remain informed through local news outlets and official channels to ensure their safety and the safety of their properties.
