On June 27, 2026, at approximately 2:20 PM, a car fire broke out on Avenida LuĂs de Camões in Funchal, near a supermarket. The Funchal Fire Brigade was swiftly mobilized, deploying 11 firefighters and three vehicles to the scene. By the time they arrived, the flames had already been extinguished, minimizing potential damage.
Brush Fire Near Machico Health Center
Just a day before, on June 26, 2026, a brush fire erupted in a vacant lot near the Machico Health Center. The Machico Municipal Fire Brigade responded promptly with five firefighters and two vehicles. Their quick action prevented the fire from spreading to nearby facilities, safeguarding the health center and surrounding area.
Multiple Road Accidents
The week also witnessed several road accidents. On June 26, a collision between a motorcycle and a car on Rua 31 de Janeiro in Funchal resulted in a 33-year-old man sustaining injuries. He was treated on-site before being transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further care.
Earlier in the week, on June 24, a 76-year-old man was involved in a rollover accident in Gaula on Estrada Padre Alfredo Vieira de Freitas.
