Madeira Island is collectively mourning the loss of four of its cherished residents. On June 2, 2026, the community bid farewell to Umbelina Perestrelo de Vasconcelos, Maria Clara da Silva, Celestino José de Castro, and António Francisco de Abreu.

Umbelina Perestrelo de Vasconcelos

A devoted member of the Irmãs da Apresentação de Maria, Umbelina Perestrelo de Vasconcelos passed away peacefully in São Martinho. Her life was celebrated with a funeral service at the Capela da Ressurreição, followed by a procession to the Cemitério de Nossa Senhora das Angústias. Her commitment to faith and community service was deeply appreciated by all who knew her.

Maria Clara da Silva

Maria Clara da Silva, a resident of Ribeira Brava, was honored in a funeral at the Igreja Paroquial de São João. Her family and friends gathered to remember her life and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Her funeral procession reflected the love and respect she commanded in her community.

Celestino José de Castro

In Porto Moniz, Celestino José de Castro was remembered as a loving family man and community member. His funeral was held at the Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Loved ones shared stories of his generosity and kindness, ensuring his legacy will endure.

António Francisco de Abreu

António Francisco de Abreu, of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, was celebrated for his contributions to local life. His funeral took place at the Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Graça. His family expressed gratitude for the support and care provided by medical staff and friends during his final days.
