On June 14, 2026, a fire broke out in an apartment on Rua do Pombal due to a malfunctioning exhaust fan. The quick action of the apartment's owner, who used a fire extinguisher, prevented the fire from spreading. The Madeira Voluntary Firefighters and the Funchal City Firefighters were promptly on the scene with a total of 18 firefighters and six vehicles, ensuring the situation was under control.
