The PS Madeira calls for improved public transport services in rural municipalities, addressing accessibility issues with smaller vehicles.

The President of PS Madeira, Célia Pessegueiro, has highlighted the urgent need to enhance public transportation services for rural municipalities throughout the region. This call comes amidst increasing complaints from residents of areas like Calheta, Ribeira Brava, and Ponta do Sol, who face difficulties accessing public transport due to limited service availability.

During a press conference held in Estrela da Calheta on April 10, Pessegueiro emphasized the necessity of smaller vehicles to navigate narrower roads that larger buses cannot access. This solution aims to ensure that all residents have reliable transport options, particularly in areas where infrastructure limits larger vehicles.

The issue is exacerbated by rising fuel prices and the scarcity of parking, prompting more residents to seek public transport alternatives. Pessegueiro noted that many are eager to use public transport for commuting and accessing services if these options are made more accessible and frequent.

The PS Madeira is advocating for these changes as part of an agreement with the regional government, which promised enhanced inter-municipal and internal municipal transport services. However, according to Pessegueiro, this promise remains largely unfulfilled, leaving many rural areas underserved.

There is a clear demand for improved connectivity in these regions, with Pessegueiro stressing that it is essential for the government to present viable public transport solutions to the residents of Madeira's rural municipalities.
