PS-Madeira organizes a 'Lunch of Freedom' in São Vicente to commemorate 52 years since the April 25th Revolution and 50 years of regional autonomy.

In a spirited celebration, the PS-Madeira party will host the 'Almoço da Liberdade' or 'Lunch of Freedom' this Saturday in São Vicente. This event marks the 52nd anniversary of the Carnation Revolution on April 25, 1974, and the 50th anniversary of Madeira's autonomy.

The gathering, set to take place at the renowned Quebra Mar restaurant, aims to reunite party members and supporters after a two-year hiatus. The event signifies a cherished tradition that has been paused due to recent global circumstances.

Célia Pessegueiro, the party president, highlighted the importance of this gathering, noting its symbolic value in celebrating both the historical revolution that restored democracy in Portugal and the local governance autonomy that Madeira has enjoyed for half a century.

The celebration also serves as a platform for Pessegueiro to voice criticism towards the regional government’s approach to these significant anniversaries, emphasizing the need for more robust recognition and celebration.

Participants can expect a day filled with reflection on the past achievements and discussions on the future of the region's autonomy, as well as enjoying the culinary delights characteristic of Madeira.

The 'Almoço da Liberdade' is not only a political event but a cultural celebration, reflecting the resilience and spirit of the Madeiran community.
