PS Demands São Vicente Municipality Ensure Water Supply

The Portuguese Socialist Party (PS) has publicly demanded immediate action from the São Vicente Municipality to tackle persistent water supply disruptions affecting numerous areas within the region. This appeal comes after repeated complaints from local residents and businesses regarding both water scarcity and quality issues.
In a recent press conference held at Ginjas, one of the most impacted locations, PS-Madeira's president, Célia Pessegueiro, highlighted the community's ongoing struggles with inadequate water supply. She emphasized that this is not a seasonal issue but a long-standing problem that requires urgent resolution.
Célia Pessegueiro criticized the municipality for its inadequate response, pointing out that despite being responsible for the entire water management process—from collection to distribution—the local government has failed to provide a consistent service. "In the 21st century, it is unacceptable for homes to lack a basic necessity like water," she stated.
The PS leader further noted that the municipality's reliance on external services has contributed to the problem, suggesting that internal infrastructure improvements could alleviate the situation. "If a municipality cannot manage something as fundamental as water supply, how can it address other critical issues?" she questioned.
The ongoing water issues in São Vicente have not only affected daily life but also raised concerns among property owners and investors, who find their operations hindered by these disruptions. The PS insists that a swift and effective solution is essential for the well-being of the community and the economic stability of the region.
