Portuguese Language Course for Lusodescendants and Immigrants Opens in Madeira

The University of Madeira will host the official opening of the 9th edition of the Portuguese Language, Literature, and Madeiran Culture Course on Monday, July 6, at 10:30 AM. This event, taking place at the university's Reitoria, marks an important cultural initiative aimed at lusodescendants and immigrants.
The course is organized by the Regional Directorate for Communities and External Cooperation in collaboration with the University of Madeira. It extends from July 6 to July 31, focusing on strengthening linguistic and cultural connections between the Madeira region, its emigrants, and their descendants, as well as aiding the integration of foreign residents.
Participants, totaling 20 individuals from diverse countries including the USA, Ukraine, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Venezuela, Turkey, Russia, and Canada, will engage in an intensive program comprising 50 hours of theoretical classes and 50 hours of practical fieldwork. The fieldwork includes visits to government institutions, museums, libraries, cultural associations, and regional businesses.
The course aims to provide a deeper understanding of Madeiran cultural identity and foster socio-economic integration in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Sancho Gomes, the Regional Director for Communities and External Cooperation, emphasized the course's role in promoting the Portuguese language and enhancing cultural identity among emigrant communities. He also highlighted its significance for foreign nationals residing in Madeira.
This educational initiative not only enriches the participants' language skills but also immerses them in the local culture, offering them a unique opportunity to experience Madeira's rich heritage and vibrant community life.
