The Portuguese Ladies' Society of Caracas has stepped up in a critical humanitarian effort, offering approximately 200 meals daily to those affected by the recent earthquake in Venezuela. This initiative is particularly significant for the Madeira community, as many of the families being assisted are of Madeiran descent.
The earthquake, which devastated regions such as La Guaira and Caracas, left numerous families in dire need of support. In response, the Society, known as the Sociedade de BeneficĂȘncia de Damas Portuguesas, is playing a pivotal role in providing relief. Alongside the meal distribution, the organization is also supporting 147 families as they navigate the aftermath of the disaster.
During a recent visit to the Society, Rui Abreu, a representative involved in the humanitarian mission, accompanied a technical inspection of the facilities. This inspection was conducted by experts from the Lisbon Fire Brigade, who are integrated into the Portuguese mission in Venezuela.
For the Madeira Island community, this relief effort is a poignant reminder of the resilience and solidarity that characterizes their diaspora.
