Porto Santo and Calheta Celebrate Anniversaries with Positive Health Program Outcomes

The municipalities of Porto Santo and Calheta recently celebrated their 191st and 524th anniversaries, respectively, highlighting a successful year for the local health programs endorsed by the Regional Government of Madeira. These programs, aimed at improving the well-being of residents, have seen a growing participation across different age groups—from families and children to the elderly.
In Porto Santo, more than 370 residents have benefited from health initiatives spearheaded by the Instituto de Administração da Saúde (IP-RAM). The 'Kit Bebé' program alone has supported over 260 families, accounting for approximately 72% of the total beneficiaries. Additionally, programs such as '+Visão' and '+Sorriso' have provided essential eye care and oral health services, benefiting 16% and 5% of the participants, respectively.
Calheta has witnessed even greater engagement, with over 1,000 residents participating in these health initiatives. The 'Kit Bebé' program has reached more than 430 families, while '+Visão' has supported over 160 children and youth aged 0 to 14 years. The '+Sorriso' program, focusing on oral health for youths aged 10 to 16, has benefited more than 110 individuals. Moreover, over 300 seniors have received assistance through '+Visão' for acquiring prescription glasses.
These health programs, despite the geographical differences, show a shared commitment between Porto Santo and Calheta towards fostering a healthier community. Such initiatives have consistently contributed to enhancing the quality of life on the islands, affirming the essential role of health investment in the future of these communities.
