PCP calls fuel-price horn protest on Avenida do Mar

The PCP has scheduled a horn-honking protest against rising fuel prices for 18:00 on 17 September on Avenida do Mar, next to the Madeira Legislative Assembly. The party is calling on the public to take part.
The PCP says fuel prices are placing an increasing burden on people in Madeira and Porto Santo. It describes the event as its first protest action focused on increases in gasoline and diesel prices.
The party says the increases create further difficulties for families, workers, small business owners and people who rely on cars in daily life. According to the PCP, they also raise the cost of commuting to work, taking children to school, reaching health services, transporting goods and meeting everyday needs.
The PCP says higher fuel prices also increase the cost of living. It says the Regional Government of Madeira has not provided adequate responses or used the instruments of autonomy to defend the interests of the population.
