Paulo Barreto, the representative of the Republic for the Autonomous Region of Madeira, hosted a meeting with Susana Gramilho, the Honorary Consul of Cape Verde in Madeira and President of the Association for the Promotion of Macaronesia in Madeira (APMM). The meeting took place at the Palácio de São Lourenço and focused on initiatives to further integrate and promote the Macaronesia region, which includes the archipelagos of Madeira, the Azores, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde.
The APMM is a multidisciplinary entity that works on cultural, social, educational, tourism, and economic projects to strengthen ties between these islands. One of its notable initiatives is the educational book 'A Macaronésia Trocada por Miúdos', aimed at raising awareness among younger generations. The association also runs the 'Juntos por Sorrisos' program, which focuses on solidarity initiatives, particularly supporting children and youth in Cape Verde.
In the realm of cultural promotion, the APMM has been instrumental in publishing literature that educates about Macaronesia. The association’s efforts extend to inter-island cooperation projects, including air travel connections and the MacInterreg program, which enhance the region's tourism potential. By positioning Macaronesia as a strategic area for cooperation, the APMM fosters economic and cultural connections that benefit all islands.
Upcoming projects include two new initiatives in Cape Verde next month, aimed at extending support and fostering community development. These efforts are central to APMM's mission to promote a structured movement for the strategic integration of the Macaronesia region.
