In a significant move to improve one of Madeira's beloved beaches, the Sociedade Metropolitana de Desenvolvimento, S.A. and the Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos have signed a protocol of cooperation. This agreement aims to enhance the management, maintenance, and promotion of Praia do Vigário, a popular seaside destination in the region.
The protocol, which took effect on June 1, 2026, establishes a 10-year collaboration between the two institutions. It focuses on ensuring the beach's optimal functioning by addressing areas such as safety, cleanliness, conservation, and promotion. The partnership is a continuation of successful joint efforts seen in other areas like the Complexo Balnear das Salinas.
Élia Ribeiro, president of the Board of Directors of the Sociedades de Desenvolvimento, highlighted the importance of this agreement. She stated, "This protocol is essential for ensuring an organized and safe summer season, providing improved conditions for all users of Praia do Vigário."
Praia do Vigário holds a significant place not just as a recreational area but also as a site with a strong emotional connection to the local community of Câmara de Lobos.
