Councilor Helena Leal emphasizes the importance of municipal gyms in promoting active aging during the Heart Month closure event in Funchal, Madeira.

In a heartfelt conclusion to the Heart Month activities, an initiative under the motto '+ Movement, + Heart', Councilor Helena Leal of the Funchal City Council highlighted the crucial role municipal gyms play in promoting active aging among Madeira's residents. The event, which took place last Friday, was marked by a convivial lunch gathering at the Santo Ant贸nio Municipal Gym, bringing together around a hundred participants.

Helena Leal, who oversees the Health and Sports portfolios, emphasized the significance of these public spaces in enhancing health and well-being for the elderly community. She noted that the facilities not only offer physical exercise opportunities but also foster social interaction, which is vital for mental and emotional health.

The Heart Month initiative, celebrated annually, aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and the benefits of staying physically active. This year's theme, '+ Movement, + Heart', resonated well with the community, encouraging participation and engagement among the older population.

The Santo Ant贸nio Municipal Gym, a key venue for this event, is one of several gyms across Madeira that offer programs tailored to the needs of older adults. These programs are designed to improve mobility, strength, and balance, thereby reducing the risk of falls and enhancing the quality of life.
