MSC Grandiosa Makes Nine-Hour Stop in Funchal

The cruise ship MSC Grandiosa made a notable stop at the port of Funchal, Madeira, on April 29, 2026. The vessel, managed by JFM Shipping, arrived from Philipsburg in the Dutch Antilles and is destined for Barcelona, Spain.
Arriving at 8:00 AM and scheduled to depart at 5:00 PM, the MSC Grandiosa brought a total of 5,795 people to the island, including 4,129 passengers and 1,666 crew members. This stop is part of the ship's repositioning cruise, which started on April 11 in Florida, USA, and is set to conclude in Barcelona.
The MSC Grandiosa, a member of the MSC Cruises fleet since 2019, was constructed at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, at a cost of 770 million euros. With a capacity to host up to 6,334 passengers and 1,704 crew, the vessel underwent renovations last year to enhance its facilities.
Before reaching Madeira, the cruise had visited several Caribbean ports, including the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. The stopover in Funchal provided an opportunity for a technical visit by representatives from Madeira's Port Authority (APRAM) and included participation from the Regional Secretary of Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues, and MSC Portugal's director-general, Eduardo Cabrita.
Following the MSC Grandiosa's departure, Funchal is set to welcome another cruise ship, the Seadream II, which will dock overnight with approximately 140 people aboard.
