A group of fifteen Madeirans, aged between 23 and 80, recently participated in a week-long Erasmus+ mobility project held in Bad Kösen, Germany. The event, organized by the DTIM, was part of the broader Erasmus+ project and aimed at promoting personal, social, and intercultural skills among adult learners.
The initiative, which took place from July 12 to 17, 2026, was hosted by the Konrad-Martin-Haus, a renowned institution with over 70 years of experience in adult education. The project was part of the DTIM's Erasmus+ Plan and the 'Sewing Gestures, Spreading Smiles' project, fostering lifelong learning and European citizenship.
Participants engaged in a range of activities focused on adult education, social inclusion, cultural mediation, and intercultural dialogue. A significant highlight was a two-day sewing workshop, where participants learned techniques used in creating traditional German Käthe Kruse dolls. Inspired by this experience, they developed proposals incorporating Madeira's cultural identity, such as regional embroidery and other traditional elements.
The program also allowed participants to engage in cultural exchanges with local attendees, reinforcing European learning and cooperation networks. A visit to an exhibition by refugee women hosted by the Konrad-Martin-Haus provided insights into social inclusion and refugee integration themes.
This Erasmus+ mobility experience not only enriched the participants' personal and professional lives but also strengthened Madeira's cultural ties with the broader European community, showcasing the island's commitment to lifelong learning and cultural exchange.
