Madeira Strengthens Cooperation with Azores in Wine Sector

In a significant step for the regional wine industry, Madeira has bolstered its cooperation with the Azores through the Instituto do Vinho, do Bordado e do Artesanato da Madeira (IVBAM). This collaboration was formalized during the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV) in Lisbon, attended by key figures in the viticulture sector.
Tiago Freitas, president of IVBAM, met with Cláudio José Gomes Lopes, president of the newly established Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho dos Açores (IVVA). Their discussions laid the foundation for future joint initiatives, including an institutional visit by the Azorean Council to Madeira. This visit aims to foster the exchange of experiences and deepen the understanding of regional viticulture practices.
The event in Lisbon also featured a wine showcase where Madeira's sparkling wines, still wines, and the famous Madeira Wine were highlighted, underscoring the region's diverse and high-quality wine production.
The cooperation between Madeira and the Azores is seen as a strategic move to share knowledge and best practices, which could benefit the insular viticulture sector's development. As Tiago Freitas noted, such partnerships represent a crucial step in strengthening ties between the two autonomous regions.
