Schools in Madeira are participating in the 18th edition of Geração Depositrão, a national environmental literacy project encouraging the collection of electronic waste and batteries.

On April 21, schools across Madeira were invited to take part in the 18th edition of Geração Depositrão, a nationwide initiative aimed at boosting environmental literacy and encouraging the proper disposal of electronic waste and batteries. Organized by ERP Portugal, the event seeks active participation from students and teachers to help meet European recycling targets.

The initiative focuses on collecting waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), as well as batteries, to prevent environmental harm and promote sustainable practices. This effort is particularly significant for Madeira, an island where environmental conservation is crucial both for the well-being of its residents and the island's appeal as a tourist destination.

A Call to Action for Schools

Geração Depositrão encourages schools to organize collection drives and educate students on the importance of recycling. The project runs until the end of the academic year, providing ample opportunity for schools to contribute to a greener environment.

By participating, schools not only support environmental goals but also instill a sense of responsibility and awareness among students regarding waste management. This aligns with broader educational objectives to integrate sustainability into the curriculum.

The Role of ERP Portugal

ERP Portugal, the managing entity behind this initiative, plays a pivotal role in coordinating efforts and providing resources to schools. Their involvement ensures that collected waste is properly processed and recycled, in line with European Union standards.

The organization's efforts are part of a larger strategy to reduce electronic waste across Portugal, contributing to the EU's circular economy goals.

Our mission is to educate and empower the younger generation to become proactive in environmental conservation efforts.
