In a move aimed at bolstering digital security, Madeira's Social Security Portal has implemented a two-factor authentication system. This upgrade is designed to protect user accounts by requiring not only the traditional National Identification Number (NISS) and password, but also an additional verification code sent via SMS or email.
The primary goal of this enhanced authentication process is to prevent unauthorized access. Even if a malicious party acquires a user's password, they cannot log in without the second verification code. This measure significantly increases the security of personal data within the Segurança Social Direta, the online portal for social security services.
With the new system, users can now log in using their email addresses, moving away from the reliance solely on the NISS. This change not only improves security but also adds convenience for users.
Activation and Verification
To activate the strong authentication, users must confirm their contact details associated with their accounts. It is crucial to ensure that the registered mobile number and email address in the personal area are correct and up-to-date. Furthermore, individuals using applications or systems integrated with Segurança Social Direta need to access the authentication management area to create an access token.
It is important to note that these new rules do not apply to users logging in through the Digital Mobile Key. For these users, the authentication process remains unchanged.
