The Socialist Party in Funchal calls for stricter monitoring of local accommodations, with 44% found non-compliant with insurance regulations.

In a recent development, the Socialist Party (PS) in Madeira's municipal assembly has raised concerns over the regulation of local accommodations in Funchal. They emphasized the urgent need for increased oversight, particularly as a worrying 44% of these accommodations are reportedly operating without mandatory insurance.

This call to action was highlighted during the 'Pensar o Funchal' initiative, a forum organized by the municipal assembly to discuss issues related to local accommodations. The PS representatives stressed that proper regulatory measures are essential to ensure safety and compliance with local laws.

Local accommodations, known as 'Alojamento Local' (AL) in Portuguese, are popular among tourists visiting Madeira. They offer a more personalized experience compared to traditional hotels, but the lack of compliance with insurance requirements poses risks to both guests and operators.

During the assembly, the PS members expressed their disappointment at the high percentage of non-compliant accommodations, urging local authorities to prioritize this issue. They argued that stricter enforcement of regulations is necessary to protect the interests of tourists and ensure the sustainability of the tourism sector in Madeira.

This development comes at a time when Madeira is keen on maintaining its reputation as a safe and attractive destination for tourists. Ensuring that local accommodations adhere to regulations is seen as a critical step in achieving this goal.
