The Legislative Assembly of Madeira has launched an official YouTube channel to enhance communication and engage younger generations, aiming to bring the parliament closer to citizens.

In a bid to modernize its communication strategy and engage more effectively with the public, the Legislative Assembly of Madeira has launched its official YouTube channel. This initiative is aimed at fostering a closer relationship with citizens, particularly targeting the younger demographic, by promoting a greater understanding of parliamentary activities and democratic processes.

The President of the Legislative Assembly, Rubina Leal, emphasized the importance of this step as part of the parliament's ongoing efforts to open up to society. She stated, "We want a Parliament that is where the citizens are and knows how to communicate with the new generations. Democratic institutions must keep pace with societal changes, using new platforms to inform, connect, and encourage more active citizenship."

The YouTube channel will feature key sessions, ceremonies, conferences, debates, and other initiatives organized by the Legislative Assembly. This allows the content to be accessed anytime, ensuring transparency and preserving the history of the Madeiran Parliament and its autonomous governance. Leal highlighted that the platform serves not only to disseminate information but also to create an audiovisual archive for current and future generations.

By leveraging digital platforms, the Assembly aims to spark interest among young people in civic participation and democratic institutions. Leal noted, "Democracy strengthens when citizens understand their institutions, know how they function, and feel empowered to participate. To draw young people closer to democracy, we must find new ways and spaces to reach them."

The launch of this YouTube channel marks a significant step towards modernizing the Legislative Assembly's outreach efforts, ensuring that it remains relevant and accessible in today's digital age.
