The Forest Police of Madeira (CPF) has increased its personnel by welcoming 36 new members, raising the total number of officers to 100. This expansion is part of an ongoing effort to bolster the island's capacity to protect its vast natural reserves and areas of protected status.
Eduardo Jesus, the regional secretary of Tourism, Environment, and Culture, emphasized the importance of these additions, highlighting that two-thirds of Madeira's territory is classified as a reserve or protected area. These areas are critical not only for preserving the island’s unique biodiversity but also for maintaining the natural beauty that attracts numerous tourists each year.
The new officers will be distributed across 25 forest posts located in seven distinct zones of the archipelago, ensuring comprehensive coverage and rapid response capabilities. This strategic deployment is aimed at enhancing the overall safety and preservation of Madeira's natural landscapes.
The ceremony marking the induction of the new officers took place in Funchal, the capital of Madeira. It underscored the regional government's commitment to environmental protection and sustainable tourism development.
