Madeira's fishing industry is set to receive a significant boost with the announcement of a €3 million funding allocation from the MAR2030 program. This initiative aims to support local fishermen, shipowners, and businesses involved in the processing and marketing of fish and aquaculture products.
The funding, available until the end of the week, is designed to cover additional costs associated with the production, processing, and commercialization of various fish species, including tuna, black scabbardfish, mackerel, chicharro, limpets, sea bream, snapper, and sargo. The applications for this support can be submitted through the Balcão dos Fundos, a centralized funding portal.
Eligible applicants include individuals and entities domiciled or based in the region who are active in fishing or aquaculture and who market their products. Owners or operators of ships registered in Madeira ports, as well as operators in the processing and commercialization sector or their associations, can also apply.
The MAR2030 program's primary goal is to enhance the competitiveness of Madeira's fishing sector while addressing structural costs tied to the island's insularity and logistical challenges in fish production and commercialization. This funding is expected to provide much-needed support to local stakeholders, ensuring the sustainability and growth of the industry.
