In a significant gesture of international solidarity, the Parliamentary Group of PSD-Madeira recently hosted Manuel Enrique Ferreira, a luso-descendant and former political prisoner from Venezuela. This meeting underscored Madeira's ongoing commitment to supporting democracy and human rights in Venezuela—a nation currently grappling with political and natural crises.
Ferreira, accompanied by Ana Cristina Monteiro, President of VENECOM, expressed his gratitude for Madeira's active role in advocating for the release of political prisoners in Venezuela. He highlighted how, immediately after his release, he reached out to Carlos Fernandes, a Madeira deputy, to acknowledge the region's unwavering support.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of democratic values and freedom, which the PSD-Madeira regards as non-negotiable. The party pledged to continue its advocacy efforts in solidarity with the Venezuelan people, the Portuguese community, and the Madeirans with connections to Venezuela.
This event took place amidst ongoing turmoil in Venezuela, where political instability is compounded by severe natural disasters. The Madeira government has shown readiness to deploy a civil protection team to assist in response to these crises, reflecting its proactive stance in foreign humanitarian efforts.
