A recent study reveals that Madeira residents top the list of online buyers of tourist services in Portugal, with 47% making purchases online.

Residents of the Madeira Autonomous Region have been identified as the most frequent online buyers of tourist services in Portugal. This finding comes from the second edition of the study "Online Consumption in Portugal 2026," released today by Webloyalty.

According to the study, 47% of Madeira's residents purchase tourist services via online platforms, marking the highest percentage in the country. Following Madeira are the Azores and Faro district, each with 41%.

The study highlights the growing trend of digital engagement among residents of Portuguese islands and coastal regions, indicating a shift towards more convenient and accessible means of acquiring travel-related services. This trend is significant for Madeira, a popular tourist destination known for its lush landscapes and vibrant culture.

Local businesses and tourism operators are likely to benefit from this surge in online purchases, as it reflects a broader acceptance and reliance on digital platforms for planning and booking travel. The increase in online transactions also underscores the importance of robust digital infrastructure and services to meet the growing demand.

For tourists and locals alike, the trend offers a more streamlined and efficient way to access Madeira's rich array of attractions, accommodations, and activities. As digital literacy continues to rise, Madeira's tourism sector is poised to capitalize on these developments, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
