Madeira Prepares for New School Year with Health and Safety Recommendations
As the new school year begins in Madeira this September, the Regional Health Directorate offers vital guidance to ensure students' safety and well-being.
With the new school year kicking off in September, Madeira is preparing to welcome students back to classrooms. The Regional Health Directorate (DRS) has issued a comprehensive set of recommendations aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of children and young adults as they return to their academic routines.
Key Health Recommendations
The DRS emphasizes the importance of maintaining both physical and emotional health, fostering good habits, and strengthening family bonds as essential components for a successful and happy school year.
- Health Check-Ups: Parents are advised to ensure their children have completed routine health check-ups and vaccinations are up-to-date. Information on health status can be accessed through local health centers or the SESARAM app.
- Inform the School: It is crucial for parents to inform schools of any relevant health issues, such as food allergies, insect sting allergies, or chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, or epilepsy.
- Backpack Safety: The weight of backpacks for students aged 6 to 18 should not exceed 10% of their body weight. Backpacks should be appropriately sized and equipped with padded straps.
- Sleep Routine: Encouraging children to return to regular sleep schedules before school starts is highly recommended.
These measures are designed to create a supportive environment that promotes educational success and personal well-being. The DRS's guidelines are part of a broader effort to facilitate a smooth transition back to school after the summer break.
