The island of Madeira pays tribute to five esteemed residents who recently passed away, leaving a profound impact on their communities. Funerals and memorial services are scheduled, as families express gratitude for the support received.

The close-knit communities of Madeira Island are coming together to mourn the loss of five beloved residents who passed away in mid-April 2026. The deceased, who were respected and cherished members of their communities, include Maria José Pinto, Rosa Maria da Silva Sousa, João Fernando de Sousa, Maria Irene Soares Rodrigues da Silva, and José Alexander Ferreira Pinto.

Details of the Funerals and Services

Funeral services for each individual have been organized to honor their memory. Maria José Pinto's service will take place on April 15, 2026, at the church of Nossa Senhora do Livramento in Curral das Freiras, followed by a burial at the local cemetery. Rosa Maria da Silva Sousa's funeral is scheduled for the same day at the cemetery of Nossa Senhora das Angústias in São Martinho, where she will be cremated.

João Fernando de Sousa's funeral was held on April 14, 2026, at the same São Martinho cemetery, with his burial following the service. Maria Irene Soares Rodrigues da Silva's funeral, also on April 14, took place at the Câmara de Lobos cemetery. José Alexander Ferreira Pinto's service was conducted on April 14 at the São Martinho cemetery, where he was cremated.

Community and Family Gratitude

The families of the deceased have expressed their deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences from friends, neighbors, and the community. They have also acknowledged the dedicated care provided by the medical staff at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.
