Madeira GuideThe Autonomous Region of Madeira commemorates the 50th anniversary of its Legislative Assembly with a solemn ceremony, bringing together former and current lawmakers.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira celebrated a significant milestone today, marking the 50th anniversary of the installation of its first Legislative Assembly. The commemorative session took place in the square adjacent to the Assembly building, near the Chapel of Santo António da Mouraria.
This solemn event featured timed speeches from various political parties represented in the Assembly. The ceremony concluded with a speech from the current president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, under an open-air marquee that protected attendees from the elements.
Among the attendees were a large number of invited guests, including many former deputies and family members of those who have passed away. This gathering not only celebrated the historical significance of the Assembly but also honored the contributions of those who have shaped its path over the decades.
The Legislative Assembly of Madeira plays a crucial role in the governance of the region, having been established as part of the autonomy granted to Madeira in the 1970s. This autonomy allows the region certain legislative powers, distinct from those of mainland Portugal.
