Madeira Honors Global Achievements of Diaspora with New Award
Madeira GuideThree distinguished individuals from the Madeiran diaspora are set to receive the first-ever Madeira Global Award, recognizing their contributions to communities abroad.
In an effort to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of the Madeiran diaspora, the Regional Government of Madeira has introduced the Madeira Global Award. This new accolade aims to honor those who have made significant contributions to their respective communities abroad. The inaugural ceremony will see three distinguished individuals receive this prestigious award.
The recipients include Felisberto Camacho, a successful businessman based in Venezuela. Camacho has been instrumental in fostering strong cultural and economic ties between Madeira and Venezuelan communities. Another honoree, José Luís Silva, will be awarded posthumously. Silva was a revered figure within the Portuguese community in South Africa, known for his dedication to cultural preservation and community leadership.
The third recipient, João Luís, has also been recognized for his business acumen and contributions to promoting Madeiran culture abroad. The awards will be presented by the President of the Regional Government in a ceremony scheduled for Thursday.
These awards not only highlight the global impact of Madeiran natives but also strengthen the connection between Madeira and its diaspora. The initiative reflects Madeira's commitment to honoring its citizens who have excelled internationally, promoting both cultural pride and international engagement.
The Madeira Global Award is expected to become an annual event, celebrating the achievements of Madeirans around the world and encouraging further contributions to global communities.
