The Madeira Regional Government has reiterated its commitment to integrate 80 nurses currently in the recruitment reserve into the Serviço de Saúde da Região Autónoma da Madeira (SESARAM). This assurance was given during a meeting between the Regional Secretary of Health and Civil Protection, Micaela Freitas, and the Ordem dos Enfermeiros, led by chairman Luís Filipe Barreira.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, marked the fourth discussion between Freitas and Barreira within a year, underscoring the government's dedication to addressing healthcare staffing needs on the island. The reserve list of nurses is valid until January of the next year, providing a timeline for the recruitment process to be completed.
Micaela Freitas also announced plans to open a new recruitment process, aimed at bolstering the healthcare workforce on the island. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to ensure quality healthcare services for both residents and the increasing number of tourists visiting Madeira.
This promise comes amid growing concerns about the adequacy of healthcare staff to meet the demands of both the local population and tourists, especially during peak seasons.
