Madeira has unveiled its finalists for the 'New 7 Wonders of Portugal' contest, showcasing its rich cultural and historical heritage.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has announced its seven candidates for the national contest 'New 7 Wonders of Portugal', an initiative that celebrates the country's diverse cultural heritage. This contest, organized by EIPWU and broadcast live on TVI, aims to highlight the unique landmarks and attractions across Portugal.

The final regional event, held this Saturday, transformed Funchal into a vibrant showcase of Portuguese heritage, broadcast live from the Funchal Marina (APRAM) near the heliport. The program, hosted by Maria Cerqueira Gomes, featured four hours of live entertainment, musical performances, and in-depth coverage of the candidates.

Madeira's public played a crucial role in selecting the finalists through telephone voting. The region's entries include the following landmarks:

  • Forte de Nossa Senhora do Amparo (Machico) - Castle category
  • TelefĂ©rico da Rocha do Navio (Santana) - Great Works category
  • Casas de Colmo de Santana - History category
  • Igreja Matriz de S. Jorge (Santana) - Religion category
  • Mercado dos Lavradores - 20th Century category
  • Casa das Mudas (Calheta) - 21st Century category
