Filipe Sousa, a deputy from Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), has submitted a request in the Parliament for the urgent release of an economic-financial study. This study assesses the viability of establishing a regular ferry connection between Madeira and mainland Portugal.

The economic-financial study concludes that a regular sea link between Madeira and mainland Portugal should be treated as a matter of public interest, territorial cohesion and national mobility. Filipe Sousa said Madeira cannot remain excessively dependent on air transport.
