JPP representative João Jesus, along with the party's secretary-general, Élvio Sousa, visited the site to assess the situation firsthand. They expressed concerns over the government's prolonged inaction, which they argue has perpetuated a state of danger for motorists and residents in the area.
According to João Jesus, the lack of intervention has led to several incidents, with the most recent landslides causing injuries to four individuals. The area, marked by frequent rockfalls, remains a significant hazard, with local authorities allegedly neglecting necessary safety measures.
The JPP's criticism highlights a broader concern for the safety and well-being of Madeira's residents and tourists, emphasizing the need for immediate action to prevent further incidents. 'For the president of the Regional Government, the imminent danger of landslides that have already injured four people at the site is merely a secondary issue,' João Jesus stated during the visit, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
