The VidaMar hotel in Funchal, Madeira, recently hosted the opening session of the VI Congress of Senior Universities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM). Supported by the Funchal City Council, the event underscored the vital contributions of senior universities to the community.
Jorge Carvalho, who attended the opening session, highlighted the importance of senior universities, especially given the increasing longevity of the population. These institutions are pivotal in supporting a society that increasingly values and cares for its elderly citizens, providing them with opportunities for lifelong learning and engagement.
The President of the Funchal City Council also emphasized the sense of community and sharing that exists within the spaces of Senior Universities. He recalled the establishment of the Senior University of Funchal (USF), which began 19 years ago, marking a significant step in providing educational opportunities for the older population.
