In the early hours of June 11, 2026, a fire erupted in the boiler area of the Madeira Regency Cliff Hotel, located on Rua da Quinta Calaça, Funchal. The incident prompted a swift response from the local emergency services.
The Madeira Volunteer Firefighters (BVM) and the Funchal Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. A total of 23 firefighters and multiple vehicles were mobilized in response to the emergency call.
Remarkably, the fire had already been extinguished by the time the firefighters arrived, thanks to the quick actions of a local resident. Utilizing two fire extinguishers, the individual managed to control the flames, preventing potential damage to the hotel and ensuring the safety of its guests.
The incident did not result in any injuries, and hotel operations resumed shortly after the area was declared safe by the authorities.
