In anticipation of the annual Nossa Senhora do Monte festival, Horários do Funchal has announced a significant boost to its bus services connecting Funchal city center with Monte. This move aims to provide a comfortable and sustainable transportation alternative for both locals and tourists attending the festivities.
The festival, which honors the patron saint of Madeira, is a major cultural event that draws large crowds to the island. To accommodate the influx of visitors, Horários do Funchal will enhance the service of bus route 021, which operates via Largo da Fonte. This route will see additional services on August 14th and 15th.
Increased Services on Key Dates
On August 14th, additional buses will run from 6:00 PM until 1:00 AM the next day, and from 7:00 PM to 4:00 AM for the return journey. On August 15th, the service will continue with buses running from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM for the ascent and from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM for the descent.
These additional services are designed to facilitate the movement of people between Funchal and Monte, ensuring that attendees can enjoy the celebrations without the hassle of transportation issues.
Ticketing and Accessibility
All valid travel tickets for route 021 will be accepted, including on-board tickets, pre-purchased tickets, and both municipal and intermunicipal passes. The regular services for routes 020, 021, 022, and 048 will also continue, with Sunday and holiday schedules in effect on August 15th.
Temporary Route Changes
Due to the festival, there will be temporary changes to certain bus routes. According to an announcement by the Funchal City Council, these changes will be in effect on several days leading up to and during the festival. The adjustments include extended operating hours and modified routes to better serve attendees.
