A 13-week mental health promotion program at Machico Health Center involved 55 participants from Santa Cruz, Machico, and Santana. The initiative aimed at enhancing well-being through multidisciplinary approaches.

The Machico Health Center recently concluded a 13-week program called "PRIORIZAR – Investing in Well-being, Achieving Self-care." This initiative, spearheaded by the Regional Health Service's Psychology Department (SESARAM), engaged 55 individuals from the Santa Cruz, Machico, and Santana regions.

Developed by clinical psychologists Paula Chapéu, Bárbara Nóbrega, and Círia Correia, the program aimed to advance mental health and self-care within primary healthcare settings. Participants were introduced to well-being strategies that encompassed physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and relational dimensions.

The program's success was bolstered by the involvement of 13 trainers from various fields, including psychology, general medicine, nutrition, social services, and physiotherapy, showcasing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach.

Weekly practical and experiential sessions were held from April to July, focusing on evidence-based methods and providing continuous support for participants. The program's high engagement levels underscore the community's growing interest in mental health and quality of life initiatives.

Given the positive outcomes, SESARAM is considering future editions of PRIORIZAR, aiming to establish it as a regional benchmark for mental health promotion and self-care.
